Hughes operations and projects are laid out at different locations throughout the UK and whilst the deployment of localised hardware allowed them to work remotely, this was slow, unreliable and costly to re-provision elsewhere once the project was complete. When they contacted Skye Cloud we needed to understand their essential operational set up to work remotely from multiple project sites around the UK allowing all staff to access a fast desktop environment including all company applications, data and email. In-house systems were at capacity and frequently encountering unexpected outages and as such, a rapid transition was required to migrate their files, including email and engineering software, away from their current set up on to our Cloud servers to remain competitive in an increasingly automated engineering industry. Key here was our understanding of the company’s engineering project teams involving dozens of people and hundreds of tasks, where just one mistake could throw the entire project into disarray. Direct access to any application not only for project co-ordinators and engineers but also for the supply chain of vendors, partners and contractors is key to their business operations in the civil engineering sector.

Hughes now enjoys reliable access to their data anytime, anywhere along with great customer service, security and support; only paying for the resources they use with flexible charging for their IT services depending on exact users in their office and on location. This is specifically important in the engineering and construction industry which faces seasonal fluctuation in their commissions and projects and increasing workforce during peak periods. The company has grown significantly since choosing us as their cloud service provider and we managed to provide an ongoing second to none service in their acquisition process with James Fisher in 2016.
